Zephyr Receives Commission!

Zephyr is pleased and honored to announce that we have been offered an extremely generous gift: the commissioning of a new piece of music just for Zephyr by the composer of our choice! Mr. Ron Levy, formidable pianist par excellence and piano collaborator for the Orpheus Club Men's Chorus, has kindly offered to underwrite the composition of this piece. A search is underway to select our composer for this commission. Mr. Levy's generosity of heart towards Zephyr inspires us to try and be even better for our listeners!

What an extraordinarily beautiful concert The Zephyr Ensemble provided today during the Orpheus concert in Ridgewood.  I look forward to hearing your group again as soon as possible.

Sing Off, On or Off Broadway, Carnegie Hall, The Tonight Show! Heard them in Basking Ridge at an "a cappella Jamboree" and Zephyr blew me away! One song, "Prayer of the Children" touched me to the depths of my being. I can't remember the last time I leapt to my feet in a spontaneous standing ovation! Usually you look around and see if anyone else is going to stand too. I didn't care one bit if I was the only one (and I wasn't the only one). It was a special moment. I highly recommend a go!

Dear Editor:

On Saturday, April 2nd, my husband and I attended a concert début of the new a cappella group Zephyr Vocal Ensemble. The group's founder and artistic director is Cherwyn Ambuter. It was nothing short of FANTASTIC! The program went from classical (Rossini) to jazz (Duke Ellington). It was great to see so many students there. Their next concert is scheduled for Saturday, December 3rd at 8 PM at St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church in Vernon.

It was wonderful not to have to travel to the City to hear talent of this caliber. St. Francis de Sales is a beautiful church with wonderful acoustics and ample parking. It is also home to the Chamber Music at Great Gorge series of concerts under the direction of Gail Niwa, who is herself an accomplished pianist.

They schedule two concerts a year: one concert at the December holidays and one in the spring. All artists are professional and have performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and at various concert halls around the world.

Wow! It's unbelievable! What a deal in our own backyard. During intermission we can converse with our friends and neighbors and can be back home after the concert in ten minutes. We need to support the ARTS right here in Vernon, to keep the concerts close to home. We can hardly wait for the next concerts of the Chamber series and Zephyr. Be sure to mark your calendar for a memorable and exhilarating night of music and art.
